Return to Sender Stamp – Self-Inking (Medium)

Turning Undeliverable Mail Into a Quick Fix

A return to sender stamp gives households and businesses a quick, consistent way to send back mail that doesn't belong at their address whether it's for a former tenant, a wrong delivery, or someone who's moved on. This self-inking version from Promot produces a bold, easy-to-read impression, so postal carriers immediately understand how to route the piece without any guesswork.

The Case for a Stamp Over a Handwritten Note

A handwritten "return to sender" note can be smudged, inconsistent, or easy to overlook during high-volume mail sorting. This stamp solves that by producing the same clear, bold impression every time, so carriers and mailroom staff recognize it instantly. Because the mechanism is self-inking, there's no separate ink pad to manage the built-in reservoir re-inks automatically, which matters when you're clearing out a stack of misdirected mail in one sitting. The clear alignment window also makes it easy to place the stamp accurately on envelopes and packages without wasted attempts, and the bold red ink option is chosen specifically because it stands out clearly during manual and automated mail sorting.

Everyday Scenarios This Stamp Solves

Households use this stamp to send back mail left over from a previous resident, avoiding the hassle of writing notes on every piece. Property managers and landlords use it routinely when clearing mailboxes between tenants, while businesses and mailroom staff use it to keep undeliverable mail moving quickly without slowing down daily mail processing. In every case, the goal is the same: a fast, unambiguous signal that tells the postal service exactly what to do with the item.

Maintaining a Sharp, Reliable Impression

This self-inking stamp is built to deliver a high number of clean impressions from its built-in reservoir before it needs refreshing. When it does start to fade, the Trodat 4912 replacement pad restores full ink coverage without needing a new stamp. For the sharpest results, stamp on flat, smooth sections of envelopes or packaging, since curved or heavily textured surfaces can soften the impression.

An Everyday Tool Worth Having on the Mail Desk

This return to sender stamp offers a simple, dependable way to handle undeliverable mail without slowing down your day. It combines a clear, purpose-built message, a mess-free self-inking mechanism, and a refillable design built to hold up to frequent, repeated use.

Ready to order? Choose your ink color above, or compare the Small and Large sizes if a different fit suits your mail volume. Need a version specific to a deceased recipient? See the Deceased Return to Sender Stamp instead.

Questions Buyers Often Ask

What is a return to sender stamp used for?
It's used to mark mail that can't be delivered to the current address for example, when a resident has moved or the mail was sent to the wrong recipient — so postal carriers know to send it back.

Is this stamp self-inking or does it need a separate ink pad?
It's fully self-inking, with a built-in ink reservoir that re-inks automatically after each press no separate ink pad is needed.

Which size should I choose?
The Medium size suits standard letters and small packages. The Small size fits tighter spaces, while Large works well for bigger packages or higher visibility

No more vague returns

I stamp Return to Sender on undeliverable mail so the reason is obvious to everyone handling it. It keeps returned mail sorted by reason instead of one messy pile. Does exactly what the wording promises.
